Topic-history and geography

Topic is a very important part of the curriculum at Cherry Hinton. It is taught in a cross-curricular way as possible, with links made to writing, Art, DT and Music. Topic has a history or geography focus and always has a question that needs to be answered, for example, 'Were the Maya chocoholic geniuses or bloodthirsty rulers?' 'What was so great about The Great Fire of London?'  

Through topic, children have the opportunity to evaluate our school values in action, as well as considering the choices made in the past and the impact they have had on the present day.

Topic is also used to inspire writing and deepen vocabulary. Topic-linked trips and visits are regularly planned for all year groups, deepening children's answers of the topic questions and providing hands on experiences.
