Numbers to 10,000

We will extend our thinking to larger numbers. We will compose and decompose numbers in the thousands, position them on different number lines, round and calculate with them. We will then apply our thinking to different measures.

Column Addition and Subtraction

We will develop our skills with column addition and subtraction, working with numbers into the thousands.

Number Facts

Children's fluency with number is essential to their confidence and success in maths, and we are always working on it. We use daily Mastering Number sessions to support children in their year groups.

How to Help

You can support your child's maths learning at home by:

• Having 'Maths Eyes' - spot and discuss maths in real life and the world around us - this includes number, measure, shape, pattern, and more!
• Practise key maths facts to help improve recall (see below).
• Play maths games together, such as the ones here and here.

Practising Number Facts

Your child has a Numbots/Times Tables Rockstars account, which they can use to build fluency and confidence with key number facts. Please speak to us if you can't find this.

Numbots Login Numbots is helpful for building confidence in addition and subtraction.

Times Tables Rock Stars Login TTRockstars builds confidence with times tables and division facts.

Additionally, children can practise away from a device using any of the following strategies:

• count in multiples forwards and backwards e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10... and 25,  20, 15, 10 ...
• quick recall questions e.g. 2 x 3 = ...., 18 ÷ 2 = ...
• Times Tables Bingo - Children write down six multiples from the times table they are focusing on. An adult then says questions from that times table. If the answer on the child's Bingo grid matches the question from the adult, they cross it off! Mrs Abbas is more than happy to explain this in more detail and give a demonstration!
