EYFS Curriculum - Nursery and Reception

Cherry Hinton Nursery and Reception Class

Intent

At Cherry Hinton we provide an adventurous, experience-rich setting with many outdoor opportunities. Nursery and Reception work closely together to prepare your child for their next steps.  Pupils will build meaningful friendships here and learn how to get along with each other. We aim for every child to be included and to access a broad and balanced curriculum that gives them the knowledge and skills needed for good progress through school and life. We understand that play is a crucial part of learning and this is at the heart of our early years curriculum. We believe that a balance of adult directed and uninterrupted child-initiated play ensures the best outcomes for pupils. We endeavour to do this by following a systematic phonics programme, engaging with children’s interests and inspiring them with interesting topics and continuous provision activities.

We look forward to working closely with you and your child to ensure that they are happy and thriving at school.

Implementation

The curriculum (see documents below) is taught through topics which are enriched with classroom enhancements, trips and visitors. Topics are supported by quality key texts. These are chosen carefully to encourage children’s speech,

language and communication development. All planning however, is flexible and responsive to children’s needs and interests so is changed and adapted depending on the children.

We understand the importance of parental engagement and believe that our parents have a crucial role to play in their children’s education. We work hard to create strong partnerships between home and school.

Parents receive updates using Tapestry to inform them of what their child has been learning and to explain how they can support this at home. Parents enjoy using Tapestry to engage in their child’s learning and share experiences from home.
