Topic at Cherry Hinton allows children to reflect on our school values, learn from past choices, and develop their understanding of the world. It inspires writing, builds vocabulary, and is supported by visits, trips and hands-on experiences to help pupils answer key questions in meaningful and memorable ways.
Topic is taught in a cross-curricular way, with links to writing, Art, Design and Technology, and Music. Each topic has an explicit history or geography focus and is guided by the National Curriculum, ensuring that children gain strong knowledge, skills and understanding in both subjects.
Every topic is built around a big question for pupils to explore, such as “WW2: How did Britain keep calm and carry on?” or “Was the Great Fire of London really great?”, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and connections between the past and present.
