The EYFS framework focuses on six key learning areas: 

• Cardinality and Counting: Understanding that numbers represent specific quantities and reciting numbers correctly.
• Comparison: Knowing when quantities are more or less than each other.
• Composition: Understanding how numbers can be combined or separated ( 3 and 2 make 5).
• Pattern: Recognizing, copying, and creating repeating patterns.
• Shape and Space: Exploring 2D and 3D shapes and understanding spatial awareness.
• Measures: Comparing aspects like length, weight, and volume.

  Practical EYFS Maths Activities you can try at home.

  Young children learn best through continuous provision and real-life play. To put these concepts into practice: 

• Sensory Number Mark Making: Use trays of sand, mud, or shaving foam. Have children practice "writing" numerals in the sand with their fingers for a tactile learning experience. 
• Outdoor Scoring Games: Create physical tally boards or use wooden clothes pegs attached to a tin when throwing beanbags into buckets to make counting purposeful. 
• Pattern Making with Nature: Collect loose parts like pebbles, conkers, and leaves. Ask children to create repeating patterns (e.g., leaf, pebble, leaf, pebble).
