For the Spring Term the areas we cover are:
Numbers to 10,000
We will extend our thinking to larger numbers. We will compose and decompose numbers in the thousands, position them on different number lines, round and calculate with them. We will then apply our thinking to different measures.
Column Addition and Subtraction
We will develop our skills with column addition and subtraction, working with numbers into the thousands.
Number Facts
Children's fluency with number is essential to their confidence and success in maths, and we are always working on it. We use daily Mastering Number sessions to support children in their year groups.
Fractions
We will multiply whole numbers by fractions and mixed number. We will find unit fractions and non-unit fractions of quantities and calculate the whole when given fractional parts.
Multiplication and Division
We will use equivalence to calculate and use a range of strategies to multiply and divide by 2-digit numbers. We will also consider which strategies are effieicent in a range of contexts.
Area, Perimeter, Position and Direction
We will learn to calculate the areas of a wider range of shapes, including parallelograms and triangles. We will solve problems using area and perimeter and describe the relationship between scale factors and perimeters of two shapes. We will plot, draw, reflect and translate shapes on a full coordinate grid.
You can support your child's maths learning at home by:
Your child has a Times Tables Rockstars account, which they can use to build fluency and confidence with key number facts. Please speak to us if you can't find this.
Times Tables Rock Stars Login TTRockstars builds confidence with times tables and division facts.
Times tables games - Learn them all here! This is a website that has a step-by-step approach to learning tables and has games to reinforce them.
Additionally, children can practise away from a device using any of the following strategies:
Below are times table booklets for practice at home in the order that it is suggested to learn them.
